Erik Mikkelson CFP®

Specializing in comprehensive financial planning, wealth management and family office services, my goal is to enhance and protect your assets to meet your specific goals, retirement needs and wealth preservation. A Certified Financial PlannerTM professional, I selected this career to pursue my longtime interest and commitment to helping families with their financial planning needs and concerns. In addition to my financial background, my 12+ years of business experience focused on strategic planning and project management prepared me to work with complex portfolios requiring highly customized investment management strategies, and also to address a variety of other complex financial needs that often arise when clients have accumulated significant wealth. This may include assisting with the valuation, acquisition or sale of a business, complicated gifting or other wealth transfer strategies, as well as other business consultative services including due diligence coordination with legal and taxation professionals. My reputation and values are based on integrity, trust, and a genuine appreciation of people. I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics, with a minor in Accounting from St. Olaf College. Prior to founding RMR Wealth Advisors, I was co-founder of Rich Mikkelson Rich Financial Advisors and before that a Vice President at Financial Planning Services, Inc. Outside of work, I am passionate about time with my daughters, family and friends, and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.

Why Choose a CFA® Charterholder

Dara Biederman JD

I am a financial planner and advisor and the Chief Compliance Officer for RMR. After joining RMR in 2005, I obtained the Series 7, 63 and 65 securities licenses and successfully completed the requirements to obtain the Certified Financial Planner and the Certified Financial Divorce Practitioner designations. I have a particular interest in working with women, especially those facing life transitions such as divorce.

I recently returned to RMR after working for six years at the State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB), where I managed the agency’s Compliance Division. Prior to working at SWIB and RMR, I worked at a public interest law firm after earning my Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2003. I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

When not in the office, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family, practicing yoga, and seeing live music.

Lisa Sowls

Using excellent communication skills and a proactive approach, along with an emphasis on continuous improvement, I appreciate being able to work in a supportive environment where I can focus on contributing to extremely positive and long lasting client relationships. Previous to joining RMR, for 16 years I worked in the Customer Service field providing service measurement and data reporting to organizations across the United States, focusing on improving the customer experience in their businesses. Outside of work I keep busy with my four children, ranging from 20’s down to elementary age and now three grandchildren as well. Having them at different stages of life keeps life interesting; I enjoy every minute with all of them.

Susan Haugen

With over 25 years of office experience, I have devoted the last 19 to the area of financial planning and asset management. I received the Registered ParaplannerTM certification from the College for Financial Planning in 2000. I have also passed the Series 65 Uniform Investment Adviser law exam. Before joining RMR Advisors in 2009, I worked with Erik Mikkelson at Rich Mikkelson Rich Financial Advisors, and prior to that, Financial Planning Services, Inc. Enjoying detail and committed to excellence, I direct overall operations and work with compliance, client relations/account servicing, computer operations and business development. Outside of work, I love spending time with my family: my husband, children and thirteen grandchildren. In addition to being involved with many church activities, I've recently started trying my hand at watercolor painting.

Becka Sawyer

I wear many hats at RMR. My official title is Administrative Assistant, and I also contribute to an array of marketing activities and client services items. I am currently working on my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from UW-Madison. Once that’s completed, my next goal is my MSW, and then perhaps a career in counseling. I am involved in the Dane County Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (CASA), wherein I advocate for the best interests of a child in the child welfare system. When I’m not working, studying, or advocating, I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend and our three cats. My hobbies include reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, and being creative.
